This Orban Optimod 6300 is a multifunctional Stereo Soundprocessor designed for Digital Radio, Digital Television, Netcasting and protection of digital STLs (studio transmitter link). The updated ratio and knee controls also make the Orban Optimod 6300 ideal for applications where very subtle audio compression is desired, such as studio mastering. Due to the minimal delay (< 5 milliseconds), this Orban Optimod 6300 is also perfectly usable in a radio studio as a headphone processor.

The Orban Optimod 6300 specializes in driving digital media such as DAB, DAB , DRM, FMeXtra, HD-Radio and Netcasting (webstream). After all, current (data) compression techniques such as MPEG, AAC require a totally new approach to sound processing. Techniques such as those used for analog FM stations, where maximum loudness is desired, are much less suitable for processing digital signals that use data compression. The new Optimod 6300 takes this into account, including the use of Orban’s Precode technology to manipulate the audio in the ideal way for digital transport. As a result, even at extremely low bit-rates, very few “artifacts” are audible to the listener in the sound. Natural reproduction of low-bandwidth digital signals is within your reach with the Orban Optimod 6300.
With the integrated CBS Loudness Controller, a consistent soundstage can be achieved for Sound-for-Picture applications. This feature makes it possible to automatically “tame” extremely loudly produced commercials, for example.
Many radio stations transport their program via a digital STL, such as a Satellite uplink or an IP connection, to the analog FM station. A misconception is to have the for FM purposes indispensable, limiting, clipping, compression etc. take place before the digital STL. The psychoacoustic data compression methods such as MPEG cannot handle this as well and, in addition to artifacts, will start producing “overshoots” in the modulation of the FM transmitter. However, adding an Orban Optimod 6300 to your chain on the studio side, and moving the FM processor to the transmitter location, creates ideal conditions for digital transport of audio to the analog FM transmitter.
By having the Orban Optimod 6300 purely take care of Stereo Enhancement, Equalizing and Auto Gain Control (AGC) in the studio, the cleanest possible signal path to the FM transmitter is made possible.
The multiband compression, clipping, pre-emphasis, etc. should then be taken care of at the transmitter site by one of Orban’s Optimods-FMs (such as Optimod-FM 2300, 5300, 8500, for example) allowing the highest possible sound quality at your analog FM transmitter.
The Orban Optimod 6300 features both analog and digital AES/EBU inputs. The analog and the two digital outputs can be independently configured for any of the above applications. Equipped with extensive remote control capabilities (Ethernet/RS232) and the ability to sync to an external Wordclock make this unit a versatile sound processor that has its place in any modern studio.
